Mulier Mulier Gallery is delighted to announce Maquettes, a solo exhibition with works by renowned Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata, on view at Mulier Mulier Gallery Knokke from December 21, 2024 until March 30, 2025.
Tadashi Kawamata is celebrated for his innovative, large-scale installations that explore the relationship between architecture, urban spaces, and the human experience. Born in 1953 in Hokkaido, Japan, Kawamata has gained international acclaim for his site-specific works. Using reclaimed wood and other found materials, his installations transform public spaces into immersive environments that encourage reflection and interaction.
Kawamata’s work frequently addresses themes of community, impermanence, and the tension between natural and built environments. His installations invite viewers to reimagine space, emphasizing the transient nature of architecture and its impact on daily life. Among his most notable projects are Chaises suspendues at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Tree Huts series, exhibited in cities worldwide, including New York and Tokyo.
His work has been featured in major international exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel, and is part of esteemed public collections, including the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo.
