Jurgen Ots, born in 1978 in Belgium, is a contemporary artist known for his multidisciplinary practice that spans sculpture, installation, and printmaking. His work is characterized by a focus on transformation and reassembly, exploring themes of materiality and perception. Guided by a process-driven approach, Ots often deconstructs and reconstructs materials to create layered and thought-provoking compositions.
His work has been exhibited in prestigious venues such as Witte de With in Rotterdam, Extra City Kunsthal in Antwerp, and the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw. He has also participated in the Brussels Biennale and exhibitions at Fundación Botín in Spain and MASS MoCA in Massachusetts, USA.
In 2021, Ots presented the installation The Stolen Eye and the Schlaftabletten at Cc Strombeek, completing a trilogy previously showcased at Rotonde 58, a pavilion from the World Expo in Brussels. This installation featured intuitive assemblages of collected objects, evoking a poetic yet critical reflection on contemporary realities.
